Welcome to the Minidoka County Indigent Services. This department was created by the County to carry out the mandates and intent of Idaho law contained in Title 31, Chapters 34 & 35 of the Idaho Code. The purpose of these laws is to provide limited and temporary assistance to the residents of Minidoka County for the payment of some non-medical and medical expenses. Assistance from Minidoka County is required to be “the last resource” i.e. when no alternative exists. Minidoka County will require repayment of any taxpayer funds used to assist a county resident under these laws.

There is no cost to file an application for assistance. Requests for medical assistance require a different application than requests for non-medical assistance. Most medical providers and hospitals in the state have the necessary application forms for requests for medical assistance. Both application forms can be found at this website. Only the application forms provided by state law may be used. No other form of application will be accepted.

Things to Consider Before Applying
  • In reviewing all applications, the county will investigate the applicants ability to work, as well as the ability of other adult household members to work.
  • Idaho law provides that an automatic lien is created on all real and personal property of those who file an application for county medical assistance under these laws.

  • The applicant (and spouse) will be expected to reimburse the county for any funds expended on his/their behalf.

  •  If federal, state or other programs of assistance are available to meet the needs of a household, an eligible applicant must apply for those programs before the county may provide medical or non-medical assistance. If denied such other assistance, the applicant must pursue available administrative appeals for those programs to the final administrative level.

  • Before assistance can be provided certain requirements will have to be met and the applicant must present himself for an interview and must be prepared to provide personal information regarding the applicant’s living situation, income, assets, insurance, resources, and more. Once this information has been gathered, the County will conduct an investigation to substantiate the data and then make a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners for approval or denial. Any approvals will include an Order of Reimbursement and the applicant may be required to sign a promissory note.
